Vu came to the United States as a refugee from Vietnam when he was seven years old and grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. Sheryl, born in the United States, grew up in Taiwan as a missionary kid. They were married in 1999. In 2006 their daughter, Lan, was born.
Sheryl and Vu came to Santarem with PAZ in 2003, 2005 and 2009 on short-term missions teams. They fell in love with the river and Brazil. After much prayer and consultation they decided God was calling them back to the Amazon basin full-time. They returned to Brazil as missionaries in September 2017 for language study and took their post with the guesthouse team in Santarém in late March 2019.
